Hey all, I hope I don't piss anyone off.
First off there are about ten people that are always in our BL defending, ensuring we have a home to fall back to. A place to regroup and refocus to mount an attack, a place that keeps things simple. Keep in mind that this is my first MMO and my first non-console game so there is A LOT of new stuff. I always log on to our BL first and generally ask if anything is happening and I rarely get a response so I thought there was no one actively doing anything in our BL, the only people there were farming materials, 1 vs 1 or whatever else people do. The longer I have been playing the more I see the same names around our bl. I am a newer player looking to help in anyway possible and I rarely get a response. Someone could say "I need help upgrading this or running supplies for that or getting ready to defend this camp", but instead silence. This can be discouraging to newer players.
Secondly, I cannot seem to find any overarching strategy whatsoever on our server and I have been looking. This could be because I don't know where to find it, maybe its a secret or it simply isn't there. This has made it difficult to find a role to play on our server. Actually thats not true, there is a role I feel comfortable doing, being one of the zerg. That is the only place I feel comfortable or of value. The problem that I have with this (the only place I feel comfortable is in a zerg) is that based on the nature of this game world vs world vs world is that a zerg is probably the weakest part of it because it can only be at one place at one time. That wouldn't be a problem if there were less objectives but there are not and an opponent with any strategy will win everytime.
Thirdly, guilds. I would expect guilds to be the place or group that would help new players learn the ropes and the smaller parts that make up the well oiled machine. If this has been anyone elses experience please post so I can have a similar experience. Shouldn't guilds be what makes a server successful in wvw? Kind of like the US miltary (I'm actually Canadian but if I started talking about our military you'd be too busy laughing) has Army, Navy, Air Force and within each of those groups/guilds smaller groups led by commanders. Notice any similarities here because I don't. Anvil Rock consistently has small groups 5 -7 people hitting camps and towers while defending our zergs, these smaller groups are usually a guild. I see very little of that with our server. Anvil Rock should be getting crushed by us in points because they're zerg is always significantly smaller than ours. I don't even know if AR has enough people to make a zerg yet they are right behind us.
Anyways... My point is there are people who want to help but doon't know how and the reason whywe have a zerg mentality is because that's the only place people can feel productive and of value.
