I personally (under certain written agreements and stipulations of course) would pay 300$ of my own money since I am "comfortable" in my financial situation for a reputable guild to cover or down period such as an Australian group such as the awesome guild BS that we have already

Many of us would, but the problem is that we can't trust them to stay. Yeah they probably know that coming to our server can be fun, but what will happen if they start to regret it and switch back? You just lost $300 so when we pay we have to be careful, not just think about how the coverage will change but also our wallets...
