specifically in borderlands, we are starting to get better about this but...
if you are attacking an objective and you pop orange swords, send out 1-5 man groups to cap or contest other gates or objectives until you no longer pop swords.
when not to do this: -when defending -in eb -during large golem rushes (4+ golems w/ the people to guard them)
borderlands are fucking huge, sending out 2 5 man groups and having a 15 man main group is practically unmanageable. defenders have 2 choices:
1. call in help from elsewhere, easing our tensions in other maps. 2. choose an objective to hold.
both choices are very bad, and the overall experience for the defenders is demoralizing, frustrating, and sticks out like a sore thumb to the other maps.
also, keep morale up. when a group wipes, because some will (especially small ones), tell them to keep at it.

This is a more proper way to play the meta than what I've observed here so far. Three/four of us have successfully taken Bay once and Briar three times in the last two weeks. This is why I keep asking about coordination. We can continue to do this randomly when we get bored (or until someone catches on--hooray for public forums?) or we can coordinate with others pursuing the same goals for better results.
Our matches are close enough in this tier that a little more attention to the meta can push us over the top. We have sufficient numbers from what I've seen but not the drive and coordination as a community.

Endorsed! Practically every time there's a heavily defended keep in a border map, there's one on the other side that can be taken by three people. Likewise, when there's a huge zerg rolling through taking stuff, they're leaving everything undefended behind them to be backcapped.
I think one reason commanders are reluctant to do this in practice, though, is that it's kind of hard in the moment to pick out a handful of people to do something without getting too many or too few. Maybe something like "type 1 in chat if you want to split off and take X" and the first five go would be easy enough.

Good point Wuze, easiest solution I can think of is to have every person in a full party or full as possible.
That way the commander can simply say one name and everyone in that party will all be the designated 5 to roll out. This means all of us should be carrying some rams maybe cats too. We should try out best to diversify parties as well so the main group doesn't lose a whole squadron of ele's for example.
