This is really useful for getting an idea of what you can hit from where. One caveat, though, is that I don't think they take elevation or splash range into account, which can make a lot of difference. A lot of good siege spots just barely work.

i dont see how this is useful the map view is really bad as most good siege placements require a precision of about 1/2 a pixel on that map

It's not necessarily aimed at people who can eyeball where a treb shot will land or who already know all the good spots; it's more for experimenting with roughly what you can and can't hit from where. You still have to figure out a safe place for whatever you're building. You also can build maps to share as a model for how you want things set up; not that we're generally that organized.
